Now in The Philippines

It's really interesting to be in The Philippines finally. I just learned that The Philippines had been the Spanish Colony for more than 250 years, thent it's the UK, Japan and US. Most of the people here speaks Eng, which is therefore very convenient to Eng speaking travellers. I do not have much chance to reach out the community since i am here just for meetings and more meetings. However, just from some observation, i really like the people here. Their lives are very different from us, somehow it's more relaxing and enjoyable, and they always smile a lot. Besides, the civil society in the Philippines is very active. I guess the Communist Party in this country is one of the most active communist party in the region. The local NGOs that I am in touch with these two days are quite radical, comparatively Greenpeace here is very very mild. That also explains why the filipino migrant worker groups are so active in HK. People are also engaged in the political movement here since the downfall of Marcos. so far i do feel that the seggregation between the rich and the poor is quite obvious. though there are more than hundred thousand filipino maids in hk, the HK main society does not embrace them (and other minority groups as well).i do think every HKers who employ filipino maids should come to visit here, so that we would start to understand this nation more.
